手と花では2025年1月18日（土）～2月16日（日）の会期でデヴィン・フリン展「REALMS | レルムズ」を開催いたします。

デヴィン・フリンは、LA出身のアニメーションディレクター。
その傍らコラージュやペインティング、多岐に渡る音楽制作などマルチに活動。

カルトな人気を誇るWebアニメ『Y’all So Stupid』、バンド「Pixeltan」、アンダーグラウンドコミックのレジェンド、ゲイリー・パンターとアルバムなど多数発表。

「REALMS」は、彼の創作領域の多様性を表すと共に、80年代LAの著名グラフィティークルーにおいて「RELM」として活動していた事にも由来している。
そこから始まった流れる構図、衝撃的な色使い、そして強烈なイメージは、現在も彼のあらゆる創作のシグネチャースタイルである。

2019年のテトカでの個展は、エイリアンのレコードコレクションを思わせる12インチ四方の作品を展示。イベントでは自身によるユーモアとダダイズム溢れるアニメ作品が投影された。

今回は、毎週内容を変えて展示するという新たな試み。大きな作品、ポスター、プリント、コラージュ。新進気鋭のお友達アーティストを多数迎えてのライブドローイングパーティーや、おまかせライブエアブラシペイントTシャツ即売会、アニメーション上映会、バンド演奏やDJイベントも企画。

Devin Flynn is an artist, musician and animation director who may be most well known for either his visionary animated web-series Y’all So Stupid, his band Pixeltan, or perhaps his musical collaborations with underground comics legend Gary Panter.

What is lesser known is that while steadily maintaining a presence in the
animation industry and in-between creating new musical projects, Devin has
also been pursuing art making which has been evolving and maturing while
remaining exploratory and fresh.

Over the years he has amassed a large body of artwork combining his
distinct drawing sensibilities with a multitude of materials that inspire
him, blurring the line between painting, collage, automatic formalism &
visual diary.

His prior exhibition at Tetoka in 2019 was a raw explosion of small experiments.
The space was filled with 12”x12” works evoking an alien record collection.
Animation was projected insuring that humor and dadaism was the spirit of the
show.

This current exhibition is a new level of refinement and definition.
In the past 5 years a new focused body of works has emerged.
Each week he will introduce a different series that stands alone.
Larger works, Posters, Prints, and vintage throwbacks will inform the newest
works.
Live events will give a chance to see the artist creating in the moment.
A few talented friends will join for a drawing party,
and there will be a live omakase t-shirt airbrushing booth
Screenings of animation and musical nights will be included as well.

REALMS – The title is significant for a couple reasons.

Since Devin’s creative output takes on so many forms it makes sense to describe
them as different locations or worlds within his personal universe.

The other reason is, growing up in LA in the 80’s, Devin was a member of a
prominent graffiti crew and distinguished his works with the name “RELM”.
His involvement in this subculture led to many great friendships and
opportunities.
It was the beginning of his long journey as a professional artist and was
formative in how he continues to apply his ideas visually. Flowing compositions,
jarring color, and strong imagery remain his signature regardless of the
materials used. This includes the animation and even the music. It is all tied
together by a singular vision which finds many outlets.
