手と花では2026年9月5日（土）〜9月20日（日）の会期でワビサビ展「NEVER MIND THE POLLOCK」を開催いたします。

セックス・ピストルズが結成50周年を迎え、改めてデビュー作「NEVER MIND THE BOLLOCKS」の偉大さを痛感している。その音はもちろん、ジェイミー・リードによるグラフィックデザインからヴィヴィアン・ウエストウッドによるファッションまで、まさに五感が震えた。当時の興奮は今も冷めやらない。話は変わって、ジャクソン・ポロックだ。アクションペインティングの旗手。その破滅的でパンクな生き様は、まさに作品そのものだ。NYで観たポロックは、教科書で見たそれとはまったく違い、躍動感の塊だった。

「NEVER MIND THE POLLOCK」。展覧会のタイトルはこの両者へのオマージュだ。しかし、作品自体は、決してそこを目指したものでもなんでもない。ただ語呂が良かったと言ってしまえばそれまでだ。でも、直感的にすべてがピタッ！としっくり来たのだ。今回は描きためていた「Cable」シリーズの中から、「NEVER MIND THE POLLOCK」のためにセレクトしたポスターを展示します。

At Tetoka, we will be hosting the WabiSabi exhibition “NEVER MIND THE POLLOCK” from Saturday, September 5, 2026, through Sunday, September 20, 2026.

As the Sex Pistols celebrate their 50th anniversary, I’m once again struck by the greatness of their debut album, *Never Mind the Bollocks*. From the sound itself, of course, to Jamie Reid’s graphic design and Vivienne Westwood’s fashion, it truly shook all five of my senses. The excitement I felt back then still hasn’t faded. On a different note, let’s talk about Jackson Pollock. The standard-bearer of action painting. His self-destructive, punk-like lifestyle was the artwork itself. The Pollock I saw in New York was completely different from the one I’d seen in textbooks—he was a living, breathing force of energy.

“NEVER MIND THE POLLOCK.” The exhibition title is an homage to both of them. However, the works themselves were by no means created with that intention. I could simply say it was because the phrase had a nice ring to it, and that would be that. But intuitively, everything just clicked perfectly. For this exhibition, I’ll be displaying posters selected specifically for “NEVER MIND THE POLLOCK” from my “Cable” series, which I’ve been working on for some time.

Wabisabi
A design duo formed in 1999 by Ryohei “Wabi” Kudo and Kazushi “Sabi” Nakanishi. Based in Sapporo, they work across a wide range of fields, from advertising to graphic design, art objects, video, fashion, and interior design. They are affiliated with “Desain Co., Ltd.” They serve on the steering committees of the Japan Graphic Designers Association and the Sapporo Art Directors Club.
